Seeing as “the adventures of my life have made me who I am today” I will be sharing my life adventures with you!
Every day we have presented to us opportunities to which we get to respond. These opportunities can either make us miserable or cause us to learn life lessons that, primarily by example, can affect those we are closest to - both at or outside of our home. For example! Yesterday, while trying to do the behind the scenes mechanics of this new website, I had the opportunity of dealing with an OVERLY helpful tech person who would NOT let me off of the phone until he’d helped me to HIS satisfaction. I had only asked for ONE THING! Forty-five minutes later, he was determined he was going to HELP ME sort out all my accounts with them. I even told him that I had just come from grocery shopping and had frozen salmon thawing on my counter top! “I have to go now!” He insisted he was going to help me. I finally said, “ENOUGH!” He agreed. He did squeeze in ONE MORE sentence: “You will be getting another email – a survey from us asking how I did. I hope I did a good job for you.” From experience, I knew it would not be a good idea to answer that email right then. I was really frazzled. I had been at a conference all week and had gotten in late the night before and had lots to catch up on. The helpful tech person was speaking a ‘language’ that I couldn’t understand, so as he rambled for 45 minutes, I was feeling more and more inadequate by the minute. My new website and my new book The Woman were both coming out this week. I was over tired and a wreck. This morning I answered the survey. I gave the man a 7 out of 10 and the company at 9 out of 10. So this I learned: I can offer my help but only when asked. I could be annoying if I give more advice than asked for. And even if my heart is right in wanting to help, if too much information is given for the person to assimilate, I could leave them feeling more inadequate than ever and do more damage than good. The Adventure Continues….Michelle
