In preparation for our trip to Israel, I took my two dogs up to our cottage near Huntsville so that my son, Paul, could look after them while we are away. Paul struggles with Autistic Spectrum Disorder, so it was a big deal for him to agree to babysit the “boys!” Part of his struggle includes Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, so when things are not lined up just the way he needs them to be... well, it can cause problems. On the way north out of Toronto, a freak storm hit. It turns out that the same storm hit in a straight line all the way up to North Bay. For about 20 minutes, fierce winds and torrential rains attacked those in the storm's path, and it left debris on the highway – and then there were clear skies! When I arrived at the cottage two hours later, the power was out in the whole village. Restaurants, stores, homes, cottages – nowhere had power! I thought that, surely, they would get things fixed quickly, and soon we’d have water, heat, and lights again – all the lovely conveniences that we can so easily take for granted. Well, no. Having no hydro was an inconvenience for me, but it threw Paul for a loop. Candles and lanterns had to be pulled out of drawers. Water to "flush" the toilet had to be drawn from the lake. There was no TV or internet, and no stove or microwave to cook our dinner – and actually no food, either, since the stores were closed for miles around. Paul didn’t like that things were "out of order." Every hour we thought, "surely, soon”, the power would be back on. My husband, Ian, drove up to help us out, but he had to leave early Sunday – and there was still no power. Paul was not comfortable with me leaving when things were so upside-down for him. The power finally came on Sunday at 6.30 p.m. Power is good! I like power! I appreciate power! So this made me think, as a person who believes in God, that just having Him as my Saviour is not enough. He has empowered me to be all He created me to be. I don’t need to fear. I don’t need to draw back from any request He makes of me. I can do all things, through Christ who dwells in me! Life is indeed better with Power! With this in mind, my husband Ian and I venture out tomorrow on our first trip to Israel. I need not be afraid! I am full of anticipation of the adventure we will be on. I am excited! I will be blogging daily from Israel, so check back regularly (or subscribe to my blog) to see what’s up! The adventure continues… - Michelle

The scions of New York City took to declaring that they would “vacate” their city homes for their lakeside summer retreats, and the term “vacation” replaced the British “holiday” in common parlance.
